R. Velraj Education

Velraj was born on October 21, 1969, in Thirunagar, Madurai, Tamil Nadu, India. His star sign was Libra. He went to the PKN Boys Higher Secondary School in Thirunagar when he was younger. Velraj went to Madurai Sourashtra College in Madurai, India, for his first year of college after finishing high school.

His lifelong dream was to work as a photographer, and he finally got his foot in the door to do so while in college, when he became Tirru’s assistant on a few Tamil film sets. Together, they even celebrated “Aalavandhan.” Bollywood’s March 23, 1931 release of Shaheed was the first to be dubbed in Hindi. It was his debut film.

Our favourite comedy of all time, “Phir Hera Pheri,” came out before “Supari.” The 2007 film Polladhavan, for which he served as cinematographer, earned him the award for Best Cinematographer. Both the Malayalam-language films he worked on, “Malabar Wedding” and “Kandhar,” were produced with his assistance.

As his first job, he helped the director of photography. His collaboration with Tirru spans multiple Tamil films, notably the critically acclaimed Aalavandhan. For the film Polladhavan, Dhanush recommended Velraj to the director Vetrimaaran. Velraj later won the Vijay Award for Best Cinematographer for his work on Polladhavan.

Velraj and Vetrimaaran have collaborated for quite some time, and the results can be seen in their most recent works such as Aadukalam and Asuran. His directorial debut was the film Velaiilla Pattadhari. Dhanush and Amala Paul were the leads, and Anirudh composed the score.
