Santhosh Sivan Education

As a young child, Santhosh Sivan attended classes at the Loyola School in Trivandrum. He then continued his education at Mar Ivanios College until he had completed his cinematography programme at the Film and Television Institute of India.

Santhosh Sivan Career

Santosh is without peer in India when it comes to directing photography. He earned his degree from India’s Film and Television Institute. He has contributed to 45 narrative films and 41 non-narrative films.
In 1988, Santosh’s movie The Story of Tiblu won him his first National Award as a director. His film Halo received Best Children’s Film and Best Sound at the 43rd Annual National Picture Awards.

Historically, Santosh joined the ASC as the first cinematographer from the Asia-Pacific region. A cinematographer with five National Film Awards to his name, four of which were for Best Feature Film Cinematography, he is clearly doing something right. He had earned 22 honours by 2014, 11 from the National Film Critics Circle and the other 11 from other highly regarded organisations. For his contributions to Indian cinema, he was honoured with the Padma Shri award in 2014.

South Indian cinema, and Malayalam cinema in particular, is where cinematographer Santosh Sivan first gained widespread recognition. He’s an Oscar winner and a co-founder of the Indian Society of Cinematographers. Eleven national film awards have been bestowed upon him. Santosh has appeared in almost 40 films in four different Indian languages over the course of 30 years. Nidhyiude Katha was the first movie he was in (1986). The Padmashree was awarded to him in 2014 by the President of India.
